Angels among us

There is an angel in my mind
with dark hair and sparkling eyes
She looks out at the world
from the sanctuary of her secret place
A place of wonder and color.

This piece was created with a variety of mediums including modeling paste, scripture from an old bible and bees wax on wood.

Treasure in the Garden

Come! Look and see!
My garden has given me a gift.
Brown and green and full of lumps
But never have I seen a more beutiful sight
For hidden among the grass and blooms
I see a toad peeking out at me!

I hope he stays!

Madonna and Child

This piece is a mixed media painting with a collage background. It's kind of an ode to Botticelli. I've incorporated many mini pictures of artwork by Botticelli and Scripture from an old bible, which can be seen in places.
I have really been inspired lately by a lot of the works of the Renaissance period and the old masters. I based this painting on a piece by Botticelli of the Madonna and Child.
Actual size is 24 x 24 inches square or 2 feet x 2 feet square.

 Work In Progress!
I drew out my original work
then I started adding the collage elements. If I had been thinking, I would have added the collage elements first, but adding them  didn't really occur to me till after it was already drawn.

You can see the scripture really well in these photos.

I then started antiquing the background to really imply the feeling of age to the piece.

This piece just seemed to take on a life of it's own. It felt like I was just using my hands to do the work the painting was telling me to do. It just turned out so much better than my expectations. One of my favorite pieces. Which is saying something, since every piece is my favorite while I'm working on it!

Mermaid Dreams

I had some fun with this one. I am leaving it up to  the viewer to decide if she's under water or out of it. A bit of a surreal piece. She's painted on one of my wood panel pieces I made a few weeks ago. I am really loving how these paintings are looking on the wood! They really are much brighter and from my research about the difference between canvas and wood, they will definitely last a lot longer. Possibly centuries, if properly taken care of.
My mermaid is currently for sale on ebay. Check her out at UFA (united folk artists). I am listing some of my originals there now. Great shop for a lot of really excellent artwork.
